Please provide us with a two-three sentence introduction. Who you are and how did you get here. Feel free to promote a current project.

I’m a fourth-generation Austinite who is so glad to live and work in my hometown. I own a 20-year-old, award-winning public relations firm that represents such clients as St. David’s HealthCare, Google and Google Fiber, Texas Mutual and many others. We’ve just moved into our own building in Northwest Austin and are looking toward the next 20 years with excitement!

What do you think has been one of the keys to your success?

Can’t really name just one—maybe three—persistence, care, hiring the right people.

Give us one tip you think every girl ought to know about achieving success.

Every girl has what it takes to be successful—she just needs to find a way to be the smartest, most confident, best-read, best-spoken person in the room. Those are all learnable skills!

Give us one tip you think every girl ought to know to achieve the work/life balance she desires.

Work-life balance, for me, is a bit of a misnomer. I’m never “off duty” for work, and I’m never “off duty” as a human. I’m fortunate in that almost everything I do, for my personal life and for my job, is fun, satisfying and creative.

If you were going to suggest we put one thing on our to-do list tomorrow, what would you suggest that task be?

Read! Read the paper. Read a book. Read a cereal box. The more you learn, the smarter you’ll be. The smarter you are, the better you’ll do at everything.

What do you think has been one of the keys to your success?
The biggest key to success is learning from the experience. Whether it’s a failure, a disappointment, or just not exactly the results you expected, you can turn it into success. Ask, “What are all the possible reasons I didn’t get the results I expected?” List 10 to 15 possible reasons that you could then turn into an action to do it differently. Then, take action!

Give us one tip you think every girl ought to know about achieving success.
I remember the moment in high school I was crowned the Dairy Princess. I remember thinking at that moment I could accomplish anything I wanted to. And then I made choices and life’s experiences took that feeling away. Tapping into that memory years later of how I felt way back in high school, when I believed I could do anything, was the key to dreaming bigger dreams and totally going for it.

Give us one tip you think every girl ought to know to achieve the work/life balance she desires.
I believe there is no such thing as balance in work and life. Loving what you do means there is no distinction to what is work, what is life. Making a difference in people’s lives is what successful entrepreneurs seek. I’m not seeking balance but the opportunity to make a difference.

If you were going to suggest we put one thing on our to-do list tomorrow, what would you suggest that task be?
Every day I recommend you ask yourself, “What’s the most important thing I can do today to move closer to my goal?” And then, do it!
