6 Simple Ways You Can Boost Your Social Media Presence & Credibility Today

Maintaining a current online presence is not negotiable. Are you looking for employment? Job recruiters often look to social media for additional background information about potential hires.  Here, they can get an idea of how you may fit into their corporate culture.  For those already employed, a credible media presence can bolster your reputation.
Here’s 6 simple ways to help you boost your social media potential to the max.

#6 - Complete Your Social Profiles

Sounds simple, but this step is often overlooked.  Incomplete profiles are simply ineffective and can indicate a lack of follow through to potential employers.  Every platform you use presents a different opportunity to show off both your personality and your accomplishments.  However, keep in mind, that you are using these platforms in a professional capacity.  Your headshot should reflect that. It is a visual representation of who you are.”  This will be the image they see when they consider your accomplishments.

  • Facebook: In the “About” section, you can share information about your interests and other fun information.
  • Twitter: This platform allows users to write a “short and sweet” bio. You get 160 characters to describe the person who is you! Don’t forget Twitter allows you to include live links in your bio. So you can link a blog or portfolio. Don’t forget you can add in relevant hashtags as well.
  • LinkedIn: This platform offers the most in-depth profiles for the professional. Make sure you fill out every section. Include professional achievements, volunteer work, hobbies and of course, work experience.

#5 - Utilize LinkedIn To The Max

LinkedIn has a feature called “recommendations.”  Here, you can request recommendations from your peers: colleagues, students or business partners.  You can also endorse other people.  These reviews offer instant credibility to your portfolio.  Employment recruiters may look at these to get a sense of who you are and how you’ll fit in their world.

#4 - Always Link To Your Work Samples

Gone are the days when you would simply list your job duties.   A better way to demonstrate your expertise is to provide links to actual work samples.  Include those links that reflect best reflect you.  Try to upload a variety of samples, as you want to show the extent of your accomplishments and your capabilities.  LinkedIn helps you to feature your work by providing the option to attach work samples.  As you add additional job titles, you can upload media, such as photos, links, documents, videos or even presentations.

#3 - Email Signatures Should Contain Social Links

More than 100 billion emails emails are sent and received daily.  Your email signature is the last “image” people have of you.  So, don’t be afraid to show a bit of your personality.  Show some  creativity with how you reference your links and it may drive more traffic to your profiles.

#2 - Be Engaging

What can set you apart from everyone else on social media.  Interaction with others on a consistent basis. That means, follow, like and most of all, converse.  This is how people get to know you in the digital age.  Every social network offers a different way to connect with influencers: hashtags, Facebook chats, publishing, and commenting are just some of the ways that you can gain valuable information about your industry.

#1 - Consider Creating A Personal Website Or Blog

One of the most powerful marketing strategies is using social media to strengthen your online persona.  Creating a personal website can serve as a central location for all your online activity.  Here, you can post blogs, videos and upload projects.  Each item can reflect “you.”  While you can do many of these things on LinkedIn, a personal website allows you more freedom.
